Despite scoring 162.6 points and adding 1.2 credits to its budget, the round can only be described as disappointing, since 63% of the points came from two players, 78% from three, or, if you prefer, 91% from four. Take your pick as to which percentage sounds worse.

The reliable quartet of Vezenkov (37.4) as captain, Milutinov (27.5), Clyburn (24.2), and Oturu (21) held their ground, while Rathan-Mayes (10) and De Larrea (9) were merely passable. Herrera (2.2), Lighty (0), Davidovac (0), and Radosic (0) were practically non-existent. The real disaster, however, came from the coaching spot, with Saras (-5) costing the team a total of 25 points, as most rivals, quite reasonably, chose Scariolo instead.

Still, Saras may not have been the only mistake of the round. In a diagonal move, we traded Moore and his 27.5 points for Clyburn’s 24.2, spending 4.5 extra credits in the process. Not exactly the smartest financial move.

Realizing that there’s no progress without spreading the risk, we begin building the team for Round 4, which starts tonight — another week of double fixtures. Coach Saras will remain on our bench to fulfill the two- to three-round plan that was initially set, in the hope that he’ll deliver the same redemption arc as coach Spanoulis did in rounds one and two.

With four player trades available, we’ll part ways with the two cheap forwards, Lighty and Davidovac, the low-cost guard Herrera, and the expensive forward Clyburn, in order to reshuffle the deck. Their replacements will be Ricci, taking advantage of Leday’s absence, and Jackson — yes, likely just in time for Lighty to go off again. The credits freed up by Clyburn’s departure will be roughly split between a new forward and a new guard.

And that’s where the dilemmas begin. Thompson, Moore, Forrest, and Miller-McIntyre are all viable guard options, while Bonga, Luwawu-Cabarrot, and Mike make a strong case at forward. Each player has his pros and cons, giving us quite the headache. Without being entirely sure this is the right move, I’ll side with the two Baskonia players, betting mainly on their playing time and the high tempo expected in their matchup with Paris.

With a 5–5 split for Round 4 and a 2–2–1 formation for Turn 1, SK ROI enters the new week with Sasha Vezenkov, the MVP of Round 3, as captain. In Turn 2, a relatively active five-player group will be ready to cover any early slip-ups.

Until the lineup submission deadline, stay tuned for possible last-minute updates to our plan on @BasketStories, @Andreas_Zeppos and @BasketStoriesEN.

Good luck to everyone!
