A modest Round 2 for the team still felt like a relief compared to last week’s wreck. With 146.6 points and a slight +0.7 credits, our squad managed to close the second round on a mildly positive note.
Turn 1 was disappointing — Vezenkov (16.0) and Milutinov (17.0) were average in Olympiacos’s two-faced showing in Madrid, while Rathan-Mayes (-1.8) and Lucic (2.2) struggled, and Davidovac (3.0) along with Radosic (DNP) offered nothing of note.
Turn 2, however, brought some redemption, with Oturu (18.7) — wearing the captain’s armband — performing well, De Larrea (25.3) shining, and both Moore (13.2) and Harrison (11.0) contributing respectably. Unfortunately, ASVEL’s forward was injured early in the second half, preventing a better result.
From the bench, we got the maximum — coach Spanoulis (25.0) compensating for his Round 1 loss.
Today, Wednesday, marks the start of Turn 1 of Round 3, and naturally, we’ll gamble early once again — without the latest team news, especially for those playing in Turn 3.
We’ll begin with a direct coaching change, bringing in Sarunas Jasikevicius, who faces a weary Crvena Zvezda at home. The goal is to keep him for two or three rounds thanks to Fenerbahce’s favorable home schedule.
In place of the injured Harrison, we’ll add his teammate and cheaper alternative Lighty, who might seize this opportunity for more minutes in the rotation. With Badio returning to Valencia and sharing the backcourt time, Moore will be sold — he plays in Barcelona — and replaced by Herrera, hoping the Paris guard will take advantage of Robinson’s injury to gain both minutes and usage from his coach.
The last and riskiest move will be the departure of Lucic, who’s been underwhelming, for a player in Barcelona who looks completely rejuvenated — emerging as the team’s new leader both in the EuroLeague and domestically. That player is Will Clyburn, averaging 29.3 points over the first two rounds.
With an unconventional 1-2-7 split, SK ROI enters Round 3 (a bit unorthodox, but we’ll take the risk) using a 1-2-2 formation and Oturu as captain — our only player in Turn 1. We don’t expect much from Turn 2, as that’s where our “opportunity” picks are, while Turn 3 looks relatively strong given our current roster situation.
