Part of the Process
A first tough night of the season for High Voltage in Turn 2 of Round 2.

Things didn’t go very well yesterday for High Voltage, with 3 out of 4 underachievers in the lineup, which means we’re now relying—at least in theory—on the players who hit the court in today’s Turn. Performances like those from Rathan-Mayes (especially) and Lucic are also part of the game, and in a way… they raise the stakes, creating the need for decisions. Do you stick with them, or do you move away?

The answers to questions like these depend on the overall picture of the roster and the team’s needs, so naturally we’re waiting to see today’s outcomes, both from our own players and those in the market.

Yesterday’s lone bright spot was Tyler Dorsey, who finished in Madrid with 15 PIR — a number that looks small compared to his explosive start, scoring 16 points in the first quarter alone. The rest of the game wasn’t as hot, but the Olympiacos guard still reached 20 points (2/5 two-pointers, 4/8 threes, 4/5 free throws) along with 3 steals in 30:51. Honestly, before the game I would have gladly “bought” that score. In the end, Dorsey proved to be one of the most positive — and somewhat accidental — moves of the team in this opening week of the season.

The score I would not have bought was Vezenkov’s. His 16 PIR is definitely below his standards. The Olympiacos star was off-target in Madrid (3/13 shooting), and so he stayed at 13 points, though he added 9 rebounds and 4 drawn fouls in 28:54 to salvage that respectable 16 (after all, his credit price is at 16+). Still, it leaves us with a captaincy dilemma going into Friday night.

The picture was much more disappointing in Munich. Having already written this text once — and lost it due to a power cut — it’s hard to describe again the night that Rathan-Mayes had: -2 PIR, 4 points, 2/7 shooting, 3 committed and 1 drawn foul in 16.5 minutes. The Canadian never got into the rhythm of the game, started negative and ended negative, and surely let down many Fantasy teams.

The same goes for Lucic, even if he started the game a bit better. The Serbian scored 10 points (3/5 twos, 1/3 threes, 1/2 FTs), but finished with just 2 PIR. In 23:55 on the floor, he managed only 1 rebound and had a negative balance in fouls (4 committed, 1 drawn). For the record, at OAKA he produced 11 PIR with just 3 points.

As for the starting six, there’s no debate. Wright, Forrest, Oturu, and Osmani come in alongside Dorsey and Vezenkov, while the Bavarians head to the bench along with Samodurov and Atamna.

The only real issue is the captaincy. If 16 is a low score by Vezenkov’s standards, for the rest of the roster it’s not even guaranteed. So here the choice is either the conservative route (32 points in the bag) or the risk of chasing something higher, mainly from Wright or Forrest. Fener, despite lacking a true center, doesn’t feel like the best matchup for the 5 — though the Zalgiris big man was really impressive in Monaco and sometimes feeds off home energy to deliver more. The presence of guards in Kaunas who understand the game is maybe a safety net. So, I’ll take the gamble and hand him the armband.

As for Forrest, the away factor lowers the bar in my mind — not that he can’t put up a solid game, but the odds of him exploding for a huge score seem less likely.

So, the final lineup of High Voltage for Round 2 will, most likely, look like this:
